Key Benefits of Windows 11: The Well-Deserved Hype

Desk with Windows 11 on computer and Kensington accessories

The Windows of the future is here, and it's generating a lot of buzz! From a radical redesign to new features that make your everyday life easier, the new Windows has much to offer. There are many reasons why you should be excited about this latest version!

Here at Kensington, we couldn't be more excited about Windows 11. Since we first learned about the anticipated launch of this new operating system, we have been actively testing hundreds of products (including: Docking Stations, CAC Cases, Kensington Trackballs, Keyboards, Mice, Biometric Readers, and more) to ensure they are compatible and can be simply integrated with this new OS.

So, what is all this excitement about?

Why Should you be Excited About Windows 11?

Windows officially launched the latest version of their OS on October 5, 2021, and the hype around Windows 11 has created buzz unmatched by any other Windows OS since Windows 7. It was designed to be more like the Mac OS and Linux Desktop experience.

The redesigned taskbar places the icons in the center. Those who do not care for the centered taskbar can customize these looks. These options allow users to align the Start button, apps, and icons on the left if they choose.

Windows also boasts a better gaming experience. It gives PC gamers some of the best features of Xbox gaming. Since Xbox is a Microsoft product, it makes sense that their latest version of Windows includes Xbox features for PC gamers.

Other features that users have been anticipating include:

  • More cohesive interface features
  • Improved multi-monitor support
  • Multiple desktops on a single monitor
  • Translucent windows (they're back!)
  • Enhanced touchscreen interactions
  • Introduction of the Microsoft Store (to replace the Windows Store)

Now that we've gone over the many features that come with the latest Microsoft OS, let's evaluate some of the key benefits of Windows 11.

The 7 Key Benefits of Windows 11

For nearly a decade, users have either enjoyed their OS or have been waiting for the release of a better version, like those still operating on Windows 7. Now, with more customization and easy integration, users are excited to see whether Windows 11 will be worth the hype.

Skeptics still look back on the glory days of Windows 98 SE. However, Microsoft is confident they have developed an OS all PC users will enjoy. According to Microsoft, here is what makes Windows 11 their best operating system to date:

1. AI-Powered Widgets

That's right, Widgets are back! If you were someone who preferred widgets - the floating informational windows of Windows 7 and Vista - to the Live Tiles that were introduced with Windows 10, you are about to be a very happy Windows user.

The new widgets in Windows 11 are more connected to the system, and they also have an easier navigation interface. The dedicated pane slides out from the left side of your screen so you can find what you need without scrolling over everything else on one page.

2. Android Apps

Windows 11 has a built-in store for Android apps. The Microsoft Store has launched with an easy way to download what you want without going to the Google Play Store.

While some users could always access Android apps on their Windows 10 PC, the latest OS marks the first time everyone can download Android apps to their computer.

However, some apps won't be accessible on the Microsoft Store that you can get on the Google Play Store. Although, users will be able to get:

  • TikTok
  • Disney Plus
  • Pinterest
  • Netflix
  • Uber
  • And many more...

3. Virtual Desktops

Windows 11 lets you create individual virtual desktops. You can customize them with different wallpapers to make it easier to organize and identify each one. These desktops are more like how the Mac OS works on a computer screen when switching between various apps or programs.

4. Microsoft Teams

With this release, Windows 11 users can integrate their video chat platform, Teams. People can connect from across multiple platforms and devices, including Windows 10 desktop computers or laptops, Xbox game consoles and iOS phones running on Apple's iOS. They can do this while keeping in contact with friends, family, and coworkers no matter where they are in the world.

5. Snap Layouts

What if you could have an unlimited number of windows on your screen at once? Imagine being able to see all the different things happening in front of and around you while working. A new feature of Windows 11 makes this possible.

With Snap Layouts, you can arrange different layouts on one screen. You can also save those layouts of the windows in the arrangement you choose.

When you open a window there's always an option in the top right corner for configuring that particular window. Click on the square near the X and select your desired layout from among all the available options.

6. Snap Groups

Snap Groups are open windows saved in Snap Layouts. They are found in the taskbar for you to access easily. You can then minimize or maximize them as a group. You will be able to see the various groups you created pop up when needed. All you will have to do is click the one you need and open the entire group again.

7. Docking/Undocking Capabilities

The best part about Snap Groups (and Snap Layouts) is how Kensington docking stations were tested to ensure compatibility. All the docks from Kensington that support Windows 7 and above work with Windows 11. This includes over 30 SKUs, or 80 global variations, of Kensington’s best docking stations. Since the docking capability is improved with Window’s latest OS, you will have optimal technical experiences; like better resolution support, ease of connectivity, and ensuring all your Snap Layouts and Snap Groups resume perfectly when going to and from the office, or anywhere in-between.
