A monitor arm mounts to your desk, elevating your single or dual monitors to ergonomic eye-level. A fully articulating one gives you total control over your external monitor(s) position, to find a neutral, comfortable posture. Concealing cables as it lifts your monitor(s) out of the way, the product also creates a tidy, professional workspace. C-clamp or grommet-mounted are the most popular styles for easy, non-permanent, non-marking installation and VESA compatibility. Monitor arm use helps prevent Digital Eye Strain (Computer Vision Syndrome), computer neck pain (Tech Neck), and shoulder pain from sitting at a desk.
If you or your employees work at a computer for hours each workday and use an external monitor, you stand to benefit from using a monitor arm for its unmatched ergonomic value, alone. Because it optimizes your workspace and unlocks productivity, too, it’s an excellent tool to improve work ergonomics all around. If you’ve experienced symptoms of Digital Eye Strain (Computer Vision Syndrome), computer neck pain (Tech Neck), or shoulder pain at work, a monitor arm will help by giving you proper monitor ergonomics.

How much does a monitor arm weigh?
A heavy duty monitor arm weighs between 7-15 lbs.
What's the ergonomic benefit of monitor arms?
A monitor arm gives you the proper monitor height and position for a neutral, comfortable posture. A fully adjustable or fully articulating one allows you to fine-tune each external monitor’s height (up/down), depth (distance between eyes and screen), angle (upward/downward tilt and left/right swivel), position (side-by-side to vertically stacked), and orientation (portrait to landscape). A monitor with cable management will also organize and conceal your cables while the arm lifts your external single or dual monitor(s) up and out of the way, decluttering and clearing valuable desk space at once. Its use prevents Digital Eye Strain (Computer Vision Syndrome), computer neck pain (Tech Neck), and shoulder pain from sitting at a desk.
I have eye strain, headaches, blurred vision, dry or red eyes, double vision, or general eye irritation — can a monitor arm help?
Sounds a lot like Computer Vision Syndrome, or Digital Eye Strain! A monitor can help by achieving the optimal depth between your monitor screen and eyes for easy viewing, and optimal angle/tilt to eliminate glare.
I have tightness or strain in my neck — can a monitor arm help?
50.6% of monitor arm users experience less tension in their neck, even without ergonomic intervention. A monitor arm helps by getting your monitor to the optimal, ergonomic position that allows you to view your screen and work from a comfortable posture without having to crane your neck forward.
Can a monitor arm help with low back pain?
42.5% of monitor arm users experienced less tension in their torso. A monitor arm elevates your screen, allowing you to fine-tune its position so you can work from a comfortable, neutral, ergonomic posture. When your screen is positioned correctly, you don’t have to lunge your upper body forward to view work, throwing your body out of a neutral spine position.
What's the best monitor arm for a single monitor setup?
Ergo Expert's Choice: My pick would be the One-Touch Single Monitor Arm because it offers a full range of motion, effortless adjustability (with One-Touch ease!), and improved productivity… and of course, simple installation!
What's the best monitor arm for a dual monitor setup?
Ergo Expert's Choice: Once again, the One-Touch is my favorite. The One-Touch Dual Monitor Arm is so easy to adjust, looks great on the desktop, and offers a wide range of adjustability for each user.
What’s the best monitor arm for a heavier monitor? My biggest concern is stability
Look for a counterbalanced monitor arm with Counterbalance Tension Adjustment that allows you to “tighten” or “loosen” the arm. You’ll be able to accommodate a range of monitor weights, maintaining stability and effortlessness.
How do I make sure my monitor arm will be stable?
Look for a heavy duty monitor arm that is tested to ANSI/BIFMA safety and performance standards. Make sure it has Counterbalance Tension Adjustment to support multiple monitor weights, maintaining stability and effortlessness of adjustment, and make sure your monitor weight falls within the product’s supported weight range. If you’re someone who loves the feeling of stability, the infamous droop, wobble, or shake that comes with a low-quality monitor arm will be a deal-breaker.
Are monitor arms easy to install?
Yes! If the monitor arm comes with a c-clamp or grommet desk mount (quick, easy, non-permanent, non-marking installation), a quick-release, detachable VESA plate for VESA mountable monitors, and if the manufacturer provides the tool kit)
How do I know if my monitor is VESA mountable/compatible?
A VESA compatible monitor has standard mounting holes drilled into the back that allow any VESA mount to be screwed in. The holes make a square pattern and are sometimes hidden behind the computer's stock monitor stand. They’re typically 75mm X 75mm or 100mm X 100mm, though larger monitors may have larger patterns.
Do monitor arms work with any monitor? Are they universal?
A monitor arm with a quick-release, detachable VESA plate will work with any VESA mountable monitor.
What do I do if my monitor isn’t VESA mountable/compliant?
Look into a VESA adapter that secures to the back of your monitor or aftermarket brackets that wrap around the corners of your monitor.
What is the difference between a c-clamp and a grommet mount?
A c-clamp clamps to your desk edge while a grommet mount mounts through your desk’s grommet hole. Kensington’s monitor arms have a c-clamp desk mount that can clamp to your desk edge or clamp through your grommet hole.
Does Kensington have a triple monitor arm?
No, currently we do not. But you can always purchase a single and a dual monitor arm or consider changing your screen(s) to a curved monitor to reduce your number of screens.
Do Kensington’s monitor arms come with the installation kit?
Installation of every Kensington monitor arm is quick and easy. Check out our videos: Kensington SmartFit®(R) Ergo Monitor Arms Installation/Kensington How to Install SmartFit® Ergo Monitor Arms, One Touch Monitor Arm Unboxing Video.
Which Kensington monitor arm is the easiest to install?
All of our monitor arms are easy to install, but the SmartFit® Space-Saving monitor arm for small or shallow desks (or desks pressed against the wall) has the least amount of parts. Both SmartFit® Ergo monitor arm and SmartFit® One-Touch monitor arm are equally easy to install.
Do you have any videos available to help with the installation of the monitor arms?
Yes! Check out each of our adjustable monitor arm’s installation videos: Kensington SmartFit®(R) Ergo Monitor Arms Installation/Kensington How to Install SmartFit® Ergo Monitor Arms, One Touch Monitor Arm Unboxing Video.
Will I be able to easily and safely remove my monitor from Kensington’s monitor arm?
Absolutely! The SmartFit® One-Touch Monitor Arm series (single and dual) and SmartFit® Ergo Monitor Arm series (single and dual) both come with quick-release, detachable VESA plates that screw into your VESA mountable monitor, making it easy and safe to take your monitor on and off.
How do I know my monitor will be stable on the monitor arm?
Supported monitor sizes are listed in each product’s specifications. If your monitor weight falls within the range, you can count on stability! If your monitor arm is still “sagging” or “dropping,” tighten the arm’s Counterbalance Tension Adjustment joint using the included Allen wrench.
How do I tighten/adjust my Kensington monitor arm?
Counterbalance Tension Adjustment allows you to “tighten” or “loosen” the arm to accommodate a range of monitor weights with the same effortlessness and stability (Allen wrench included).
If we have a question on installation or need additional support, where can we go?
We have a stellar technical support team available at https://www.kensington.com/resources/product-support/
Can you explain how the SmartFit® System works on Monitor Arms?
Think of SmartFit® as a built-in ergo specialist for each SmartFit® product. Each SmartFit® product comes with a SmartFit® hand chart in the product box. Simply take the chart out, place your hand on it to see which color your hand fills, and then adjust the product to your color to find your fit with the product. It’s a scientifically backed system; because your hand correlates to proportions in your body, your color will help you find your fit. It’s perfect for individuals or teams new to ergonomics and overwhelmed by it — and ensures that each user will find comfort with the product. For big teams, SmartFit® also takes the place of an ergonomic consultant, specialist, or trainer needed to guide each teammate in setting up the product properly. SmartFit® provides the answer to questions you might have as you set up your monitor arm: How high should my monitor be? How do I set up dual monitor arms? How far should I sit from my monitor? Should my monitor be tilted backward or forward?
