Q: Will the SD5300T work with any laptop device?

A: No, the SD5300T is a Thunderbolt 3 docking station and will only work with Thunderbolt 3 laptops. Please check our device compatibility list or your laptop system requirements before purchasing.

Q: Can I use my own USB-C cable to connect the dock to my laptop?

A: No, we recommend you use the Thunderbolt 3 cable that came with our docking station due to inconsistencies with other USB-C cables.

Q: How many external displays does the SD5300T support natively?

A: 2 external monitors. One connected via the HDMI 2.0 port and the other via the USB-C Thunderbolt port.

Q: Does the dock come with any adapters?

A: Yes, we provide you with a USB-C to HDMI 2.0 adapter so you can create a dual HDMI set-up if desired.

Q: Do you recommend a certain type of HDMI cable?

A: If you want single 5k or dual 4k resolutions, we recommend you use a HDMI 2.0 cable.

Q: Does the SD5300T charge/power my system?

A: Yes, the dock can provide up to 60W of power to charge the host. In order to charge, the system must be connected to the Thunderbolt 3 port on the back of the dock labeled with the 'Computer' icon.

Q: My Mac system included a 87W power adapter, will the dock’s 60W output charge my system?

A: Yes, but at a slightly slower rate compared to the 87W power adapter.

Q: Do I need to install any drivers to use the dock?

A: With macOS and Windows 10 and 8.1, the operating system will download and install the necessary drivers automatically. Please be sure your Intel Thunderbolt software is installed. Check for more details by going to the Thunderbolt update page

Q: Does the docking station work on Linux?

A: The docking station does not currently support Linux.

Q: Which USB A port will support charging (i.e. phones or tablets)?

A: If you ever need to charge a phone or tablet, please be sure you connect your device to the USB port on the front of the dock, labeled with the 'Battery' icon.

Q: Is there anyway to secure the docking station so it doesn’t get stolen?

A: Yes, the SD5300T comes with 2 lock slots (Kensington Standard Slot and a Nano Slot) but the lock itself is not included. The following lock is compatible with this docking station.

Q: Is there anyway to mount the dock behind my monitor?

A: Yes, the SD5300T comes with VESA mount holes but does not comes with a VESA mount. The following VESA mount is compatible with this docking station.

Q: What is the maximum resolution supported on the SD5300T?

A: The SD5300T supports a single monitor up to (5K) 5120 x 2880 @ 60Hz or dual monitors (extended desktop) up to (4K) 4096 x 2160 @ 60Hz.

Q: What version of SD Card Reader is used on the SD5300T?

A: The SD5300T utilizes a SD 3.0 UHS-I card reader with speeds up to 104MB/s.
