A: The SD5920T dock supports Thunderbolt™ 4, USB4®, and USB-C® devices running Windows (10 or later), macOS (11 or later), and ChromeOS (114 or later).
A: Yes, for laptops that have at least one USB-C® port that supports Power Delivery, the SD5920T dock will deliver up to 100W charging (96W certified).
A: Once the DisplayLink® driver is installed, this dock can support up to Quad 4K @ 60Hz on Windows and Chrome laptops with a Thunderbolt™ 4 port or MacBooks with M1/M2/M3/M4 Pro and Max chipsets (and M3 base chipset requires the lid to be closed, while the M4 base chipset works with the lid open). It also supports up to Triple 4K @ 60Hz for laptops with a fullfunction USB-C® Alt Mode port or MacBooks with base M1/M2 chipsets. The SD5920T also provides flexible video connections (HDMI®, DP, and Thunderbolt™ 4) to eliminate the need for cumbersome adapters.
A: DisplayLink® technology is a software-based solution that enables users to connect multiple displays to their computers or laptops without relying on the device's built-in graphics processor (GPU). It acts as a virtual graphics card, allowing for seamless multi-display setups. Yes, a driver is required to effectively use DisplayLink® technology. The SD5920T will support up to two external displays for plug-and-play video (choose between 2 x Thunderbolt™ 4 downstream ports and 1 x DP port). With DisplayLink®, the SD5920T dock will support up to four external displays by adding 2 additional HDMI®/DP options.
A: Yes, for Windows laptops with a Thunderbolt 4 port, use one of the Thunderbolt™ 4 downstream ports or the DP port in video option 3(see Instruction Guide) to achieve Single 8K @ 60Hz. For MacBook models with M1/M2/M3/M4 Pro and Max chipsets, the SD5920T supports up to Dual 6K @ 60Hz. Refer to the resolution table in the Instruction Guide to determine your video capabilities with the SD5920T.
A: Yes, for the best experience, you will need to install the latest DisplayLink® Manager and keep it up to date. You can download the DisplayLink® Manager here.
A: To watch videos on streaming platforms with HDCP protection while connected to the SD5920T, you will need to temporarily disable the DisplayLink® Manager:
This workaround will allow you to watch the video using one external monitor connected to one of these plug-and-play options: 2 x Thunderbolt™ downstream ports or 1 x DP port. When you are done streaming video with HDCP protection, simply enable the DisplayLink® Manager again to use multiple displays according to your laptop’s chipset capability.
A: The SD5920T dock has three Thunderbolt™ 4 ports – one Thunderbolt™ 4 host port for laptop charging and two Thunderbolt™ 4 DFP ports that deliver up to 40Gbps data transfer speeds and provide up to 15W of device charging. The SD5920T is a hybrid dock that offer the Thunderbolt™ 4 benefits of 40Gbps bandwidth while also enabling you to connect two additional external displays using DisplayLink® technology.
A: Yes, the SD5920T supports phone charging. The front USB-C® 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps port and the front Thunderbolt™ 4 DFP port can deliver up to 15W of charging power. Additionally, there is a USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps port that provides up to 7.5W, making it ideal for charging your smartphone, tablet, or other smart device, using either a USB-C® or USB-A cable.
A: Yes, the SD5920T dock features KonstantCharge™, which enables you to charge your devices through the ports as soon as power is supplied to the docking station, even when the laptop is disconnected from the dock.
A: Thunderbolt™ 4 DFP ports supports data transfer speeds up to 40Gbps.
