Do I need to install anything to use this trackball?

No. The ProFit® Ergo Vertical Wireless Trackball is plug-and-play. Install KensingtonWorks™ software and enhance productivity by customising workflow options per application for virtually endless function combinations.

How many devices can I connect with the trackball?

You can connect up to three devices – one via the 2.4GHz nano

How do I clean the ball?

A built-in trackball ejection button allows you to effortlessly remove the trackball to clean dirt, grime and germs and keep your trackball functioning smoothly.

How long is the battery life?

You can expect to get 13 months of performance from two AA batteries (included). The battery indicator light will alert you when it’s time for a change.

How well does it work with Linux?  

The trackball functions of our default settings should work with Linux, but customisation settings made with KensingtonWorks only work with Windows and macOS.

How well does it work with ChromeOS?

The trackball functions of our default settings should work with Chrome OS, but customisation settings made with KensingtonWorks only work with Windows and macOS.

Is there a left-handed version?

Not at the moment, but you can programme the buttons with KensingWorks to accommodate left-handed use.

Is it a quiet clicker?

It's not unusually loud, but it does still make a clicking sound.

How tall is this trackball? I've got a slide out keyboard tray and want to make sure it will fit.

The height of Vertical Trackball is 68mm (2.68 inches).

Can you programme the forward/back buttons to be DPI adjustments?

No. DPI adjustments can be made using the DPI switch located on the bottom of the device. You can also adjust pointer speed with KensingtonWorks.

Is this compatible with Android tablets?

The functions of our default settings should work with Android, but customisation settings made with KensingtonWorks only work with Windows and macOS

Is this compatible with iOS?

The functions of our default settings should work with iOS 13 and above,  but customisation settings made with KensingtonWorks only work with Windows and macOS.

Does the scroll wheel have a free/fast-scroll capability?

No. It is only detented such that you feel it click as you scroll the wheel.

Is this trackball PS4 compatible?

The functions of our default settings should work with PS4, but customisation settings made with KensingtonWorks only work with Windows and macOS

Is this compatible with USB-C?

Yes, but you’ll need an adapter (USB-A to USB-C for the trackball, or USB-C to USB-A for the host device). 

Do you have to use the trackball or can you also drag it like a traditional mouse?

It only works as a trackball.

Is the dongle USB 3.0 or USB 2.0?

Since mice and keyboards don't use huge amounts of data, it’s USB 2.0. But it works in either port.

Can it be programmed to perform shortcuts when you tilt the scroll wheel, instead of scrolling side to side?

Yes, with KensingtonWorks software.

Can this trackball scroll sideways as well? For example, can the trackball scroll from left to right on an Excel spreadsheet?

Yes. It can scroll both vertically and horizontally. But whether the horizontal scroll can work or not will depend on whether the application itself can support horizontal scrolling. Excel currently doesn’t support horizontal scrolling by default.

Does this trackball work with Adobe programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator?

The trackball functions of our default settings should work with Photoshop and Illustrator, but to perform specific functions, you’ll need to customise with KensingtonWorks and adjust your settings for each application.

Does this require software or is it plug-and-play?

A: It’s plug-and-play by default, however free downloadable KensingtonWorks software lets you customise the buttons and functions. Some buttons, such as the Bluetooth pairing button, are not programmable.

How many programmable buttons are there?

There are nine programmable buttons.

Can it be used on any surface, such as your thigh?

Yes. A trackball can work on any surface since the ball will always rotate within its socket.
