Next Generation Physical Security Device from Kensington Hailed for Design Innovation

The Red Dot jury has made its decision. After all submitted products were assessed by a panel of experts, the Kensington Laptop Locking Station with K-Fob™ Smart Lock received the internationally recognized “Red Dot” distinction for high design quality.

Incorporating Kensington’s encrypted KFob™ Smart Lock Technology, the Kensington Laptop Locking Station with K-Fob Smart Lock is engineered to be the most secure and convenient laptop lock available for today’s thin and light laptops. Designed to reduce theft and improve compliance with corporate security protocols, the Laptop Locking Station secures MacBook and most Dell, HP and Lenovo models. The Laptop Locking Station’s award-winning design and premium materials provides the trusted protection that has made Kensington The Professionals’ Choice in laptop security for over 25 years.

K-Fob Smart Lock Technology combines encrypted security with the simplicity of keyless locking. The adjustable non-invasive locking design of the Kensington Laptop Locking Station with K-Fob Smart Lock allows users to secure 11-15.6” laptops without tools, and without modifying the laptop in any way.

A simple wave of the pocket-sized K-Fob releases the laptop from the Locking Station.

The Laptop Locking Station with K-Fob Smart Lock can be secured to any fixed object using the removable tethered locking cable, or permanently affixed to a desktop using its pre-drilled mounting hole.

The Kensington Laptop Locking Station with K-Fob Smart Lock is part of Kensington’s robust key management solutions that include a Master Keyed option to help IT managers minimize the number of keys required to secure devices. Kensington’s innovative Register & Retrieve program offers free and secure cloud-based key replacement if a K-Fob is ever lost or stolen.

Evaluation platform for good design

The Red Dot Award: Product Design dates back to 1955, and determines the best products created each year. In 2018, designers and manufacturers from 59 countries submitted more than 6,300 objects to the competition. True to the motto “In search of good design and innovation,” a jury comprising roughly 40 members assessed products individually. The award’s rigorous judging criteria—which include level of innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics, and durability—provide a frame of reference that the jurors then complement with their own expertise.

A choice of three different distinctions are awarded: The Red Dot: Best of the Best is reserved for each category’s best products, while the Red Dot is the distinction for high design quality. An Honourable Mention is awarded for a particularly well-executed aspect of design work.

“I want to congratulate the award winners sincerely on their wonderful success in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018,” said Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award. “Success in the competition is proof of the good design quality of the products and once again shows that companies are on the right path. When I speak about good design, I am referring to more than just an attractive product. All of the products are characterized by outstanding functionality. This demonstrates that the designers have understood their clients and their needs.”

Celebration to honor the laureates

The winners were celebrated at the Red Dot Gala on July 9, 2018. The Red Dot: Best of the Best laureates will receive their trophies onstage at Essen’s opera house during the award ceremony. At the subsequent Designers’ Night in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, the Red Dot laureates receive their certificates. The Designer’s Night aftershow party marks the launch of a four-week special exhibition “Design on Stage – Winners Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018,” which will feature the award-winning innovations as part of the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design.

The Red Dot Gala also coincides with the publication of the Red Dot Design Yearbook 2018/2019, which showcases the year’s winning products. In addition, they can be found in the Online Exhibition, the Red Dot App, and on Red Dot 21 from that date.

About the Red Dot Design Award:

In order to appraise the diversity in the field of design in a professional manner, the Red Dot Design Award breaks down into three disciplines: Product Design, Communication Design, and Design Concept. The Red Dot Award is one of the world’s largest design competitions, dating back to 1955. In the 1990s, Red Dot CEO Dr. Peter Zec developed the name and brand of the award. Ever since, the sought-after Red Dot award has been the revered international seal of outstanding design quality. Further information available at www.red-dot.de.
